The new police system has been implemented by dividing the rural area of the capital Dehradun into two parts. Under this new system, two women SPs have been given responsibility. The charge of SP Rishikesh has been given to Jaya Baluni, while the responsibility of SP Vikasnagar has been given to Renu Lohani.
Need for division
Dehradun is a district where the geographical location of rural and urban areas is quite different. There are a total of 21 police stations in the district, out of which 10 police stations come under the rural area and 11 police stations in the urban area. Keeping in mind this geographical and administrative difference, it was considered necessary to divide the rural area into two parts.
Division of responsibilities
The Home Department has recently made this change under the deployment of PPS officers. Jaya Baluni has been given the responsibility of Rishikesh area, which is located in the plains and is known as Parwanoo. At the same time, Renu Lohani has been given the charge of Vikasnagar area, which also includes the inaccessible hilly area Jaunsar-Bawar.
Geographical diversity and challenges
Rishikesh area is a plain area and is connected to the main urban areas of Uttarakhand, while Vikasnagar area borders Himachal Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. Apart from this, the hilly area of Jaunsar-Bawar demands special attention from security and administrative point of view.
Impact and significance
This change in Dehradun district will not only increase the efficiency of the police administration but will also provide better security and service to the regional public. The appointment of two women SPs makes it clear that the state government is making administrative reforms by giving priority to women leadership.
This new system is expected to make policing more effective and help in quick resolution of regional problems.
