From 9:00 PM on Friday to 5:00 AM on Saturday, three specially formed enforcement teams conducted extensive checks along major transit routes—including Dat Kali Temple to Asharodi, Shimla Bypass Road, Telpura Singhniwala, and the Selakui–Premnagar–Love Nagar corridor.

Key Enforcement Outcomes

Authorities confirmed the following actions:

  • 44 traffic violations challaned (including inadequate safety measures)

  • 10 vehicles seized and temporarily banned from operation

Officials stated that reflectors, fire extinguishers, emergency exit doors and fitness clearance documents were the primary focus of inspection, given the increased risk of accidents during night travel.

Passengers Faced Challenges Due to No Govt Night Bus Service to Delhi

During the operation, enforcement officers found safety rule violations in inter-state buses traveling toward neighboring states, including Uttar Pradesh. When these errant buses were stopped, passengers were advised to shift to state-managed public transport buses for safer travel.

However, the enforcement teams faced strong resistance and emotional distress from commuters, as the Uttarakhand Transport Corporation (UTC) currently does not operate any overnight bus service from Dehradun to Delhi. Due to the absence of a government alternative, officers reportedly struggled for hours to reassure frustrated and stranded passengers.

An official from the enforcement team said:

“We could divert passengers to government buses for short routes, but for Delhi-bound travelers there was no immediate public option. It took major effort to calm and guide them safely.”

  • Accelerated recklessly in a hazardous manner

  • Exploited darkness and escaped from the spot

Transport officials confirmed that the driver remains unidentified and a search is underway.
