Igas Bagwal, a folk festival of Uttarakhand, is celebrated 11 days after Diwali. It is also called Budhi Diwali. On this day, there is a tradition of playing with fireballs in the mountains of Uttarakhand. The importance of this festival is linked to the return of Lord Ram to Ayodhya. It is believed that the news of Lord Ram’s return to Ayodhya reached the mountains after 11 days. Therefore this day is celebrated as Igas Bagwal.
On the day of Igas Bagwal, people worship Lakshmi in their homes. After this they play with fireballs. The ball of fire is called Chhilla. Chhilla is made from pine wood. Balls of fire are made by drying it and then burning it. On the day of Igas Bagwal, people gift Chhilla to each other.
Igas Bagwal is a joyous festival. On this day people meet and hug each other. On this day people wear new clothes and prepare different types of dishes.
