Pithoragarh: In a challenging rescue operation, the Uttarakhand SDRF recovered the body of a truck driver who fell into a 500-meter-deep gorge near Aichol village in Pithoragarh district on 17 November 2025.
According to information received by the District Control Room, Pithoragarh, a truck accident was reported near Aicholi, prompting an immediate response from the SDRF. A team led by Head Constable Naveen Kumar from the SDRF post Ascott rushed to the incident site.
Driver Found Dead in Deep Gorge
Upon reaching the location, the SDRF team discovered that the truck driver had fallen nearly 500 meters down the steep hillside and was lying lifeless. The terrain was extremely difficult, with narrow paths, loose rocks, and adverse conditions complicating the rescue effort.
Challenging Rope-Rescue Operation
Using specialized rope-rescue equipment, the SDRF personnel carefully descended into the deep gorge. Despite the harsh terrain and challenging environment, the team managed to reach the deceased.
After securing the body, the SDRF team lifted it out of the gorge and then carried it on a stretcher for nearly 2 kilometers to reach the nearest road head. The body was later handed over to the local authorities for further legal proceedings.
