Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Visit to Harsil-Mukhwa on February 27: A Boost for Winter Tourism in Uttarakhand

 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit the Harsil-Mukhwa region in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand on February 27. Preparations for this proposed visit are in full swing at the administrative level. Chief Secretary Mrs. Radha Raturi held a meeting with officials to review the necessary arrangements and directed them to complete all preparations within the stipulated time.

Administrative Preparations in Full Swing

The Chief Secretary instructed officials to ensure that all arrangements related to the Prime Minister’s program are executed flawlessly. She also emphasized that this visit presents a significant opportunity to promote winter tourism in Uttarakhand. Therefore, special programs should be organized to highlight the state’s tourism potential.

She further announced that she would personally visit Harsil-Mukhwa to inspect the preparations on-site. Considering the Prime Minister’s proposed visit to the Mukhwa temple and his public address in Harsil, special arrangements are being made for parking and transportation.

Accelerated Local Development Efforts

In the meeting, Secretary Mr. Vinod Kumar Suman informed that all concerned departments are finalizing their preparations. Uttarkashi District Magistrate Dr. Mehraban Singh Bisht stated that the premises of the horticulture department in Harsil have been leveled for the Prime Minister’s program. Mukhwa village and its temple have been beautified, and a safe pathway has been constructed.

Additionally, extensive work has been carried out to improve roads and basic infrastructure:

  • Road Repairs: Roads in the Harsil-Mukhwa region are being renovated. The road to the Bagori helipad is nearly complete.
  • Transport and Parking Facilities: Parking sites are being developed in Harsil and Mukhwa, with additional arrangements along the Gangotri highway.
  • Water Supply and Electricity: To address the issue of water freezing in winter, an approximately 5 km long HDPE pipeline has been laid. Street lights and solar high-mast lights have been installed to ensure an uninterrupted power supply.
  • Facilities and Sanitation: Three new smart toilets are being built in the area.

Boost for Tourism and Local Products

The Chief Secretary directed the tourism department to organize an exhibition showcasing Uttarakhand’s winter tourism destinations in Harsil. Additionally, a special exhibition featuring local products will be set up to support regional artisans and entrepreneurs.

Tight Security Arrangements

The meeting was attended by Director General of Police Mr. Deepam Seth, Principal Secretary Mr. R.K. Sudhanshu, and other senior officials. Special security forces are being deployed in Harsil and Mukhwa, and all security arrangements are being thoroughly reviewed.
