India’s Economy Doubles, Global Ranking Improves
Explaining the economic backdrop of Budget 2026, the Union Minister said that India’s GDP has more than doubled over the last decade.
“In 2014, India’s GDP stood at around 2 trillion dollars, which has now grown to approximately 4.3 trillion dollars,” he said.
He added that India is currently the fourth-largest economy in the world, and as per international financial monitoring agencies, including the International Monetary Fund (IMF), India is expected to become the third-largest economy before 2027.
According to him, the Uttarakhand Budget 2026 aligns with this national vision of sustained growth, stability, and long-term development.
Capital Expenditure Sees Historic Jump
Hardeep Singh Puri emphasized that capital expenditure (Capex) has been given top priority in Budget 2026. Comparing figures with 2014, he said that capital expenditure has witnessed a massive increase of 433 percent.
He clarified that capital expenditure is not limited to the central budget alone.
“Through the Finance Commission, capital expenditure funds also reach the states. Around ₹4.5 lakh crore has been earmarked for states specifically for capital expenditure,” he said.
In addition, Public Sector Units (PSUs), including Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs), have a combined capital budget of ₹1.20 lakh crore, while the Coal Ministry alone has allocated nearly ₹30,000 crore.
“When all these are combined, it clearly shows the scale of investment being made in the country,” the minister added.
Uttarakhand Budget 2026: Big Rise in Central Support
Talking specifically about Uttarakhand Budget 2026, Hardeep Singh Puri highlighted the sharp rise in financial assistance to the state. He compared figures from previous years to underline the change.
“In 2009–10, Uttarakhand received around ₹170 crore. Even in 2014, allocations were limited. Today, under Budget 2026, this amount has increased to more than ₹4,000 crore,” he said.
He stated that this significant rise reflects the Centre’s commitment towards infrastructure development, connectivity, and overall growth of Uttarakhand, especially considering its strategic and geographical importance.
Focus on Growth, Inflation Control and Infrastructure
The Union Minister said that economic growth has been placed as the first priority while drafting Budget 2026, followed by keeping inflation under control.
He noted that India recorded a growth rate of 8.2 percent in the last quarter, while the IMF has projected India’s growth rate between 6.6 percent and 7.3 percent.
At the same time, inflation has been successfully contained, coming down from 4.4 percent to 4.3 percent.
“This shows that Budget 2026 is not just about growth numbers, but also about stability and sustainability,” he said.
Women-Led Development a Key Highlight
Hardeep Singh Puri also underlined that Uttarakhand Budget 2026 and the Union Budget place strong emphasis on women empowerment and women-led development.
He said the budget focuses on Nari Shakti, women-centric development programs, and inclusive growth, ensuring that women play a central role in India’s journey towards becoming a developed nation.
Budget 2026 Sets Direction for Viksit Bharat 2047
Summing up, the Union Minister said that Budget 2026 is a roadmap for transforming India into a developed country by 2047, with heavy investments in capital expenditure, infrastructure development, economic growth, and social empowerment.
With a substantial increase in allocations and development-focused planning, Uttarakhand Budget 2026 is expected to accelerate growth, strengthen infrastructure, and open new opportunities for the state in the coming years.
