23-Year-Old Uttarakhand Youth Rohit Bisht Killed in High-Speed Mercedes G63 Crash in Delhi’s Vasant Kunj

New Delhi: In a tragic late-night accident, 23-year-old Uttarakhand resident Rohit Bisht lost his life after being struck by a speeding Mercedes-Benz G63 near Ambience Mall, Vasant Kunj, in South Delhi on Saturday. The crash also left two of his colleagues injured, prompting widespread outrage over reckless driving in the city.

According to Delhi Police, the accident occurred shortly after midnight when the luxury SUV, allegedly driven at high speed, lost control, hit an electric pole, and then rammed into three men who were standing near an auto-rickshaw stand outside the mall.

Victims Were Returning After Work

All three victims—Rohit and his coworkers—were employed at a restaurant inside Ambience Mall. They had reportedly finished their shift and were waiting at the auto stand to head home when the out-of-control vehicle hit them with massive force.

Rohit was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital; however, doctors declared him brought dead. The other two victims sustained serious injuries but are currently reported to be in stable condition.

Rohit Bisht: A Young Life Cut Short

Rohit hailed from Beradhar Gram Sabha in Dewal block of Chamoli district, Uttarakhand. The eldest son of his family, Rohit had moved to Delhi for employment in the hospitality sector, striving to support his father, Yashwant Bisht, a farmer, and provide financial stability for his household.

His sudden death has plunged the family into unbearable grief, with relatives describing him as hardworking, responsible, and dedicated to improving his family’s future.

Accused Driver Detained; Vehicle Borrowed for a Wedding

Police identified the driver as Shivam (29), who was returning from a wedding ceremony along with his wife and elder brother. The Mercedes G63 did not belong to him; it was reportedly borrowed from a friend for the evening.

Shivam has been detained by Delhi Police, and further questioning is underway. Investigators are also probing whether the driver was under the influence of alcohol or driving significantly above the speed limit at the time of the crash.

Investigation Underway: CCTV Footage and Vehicle Inspection

Police have begun reviewing CCTV footage from the area to verify the sequence of events. Forensic teams are inspecting the vehicle for mechanical faults, although preliminary suspicion strongly points toward over-speeding or negligent driving.

A case has been registered under relevant sections of the IPC, and further legal action is expected once the investigation is complete.

Growing Concern Over High-Speed Driving in Delhi

This incident has once again raised concerns about dangerous driving patterns and the repeated involvement of high-end vehicles in late-night collisions across the capital. Residents and commuters in Vasant Kunj have frequently complained about overspeeding near the mall stretch, especially during late hours.

Family Demands Strict Action

Rohit’s grieving family has demanded strict punishment for the accused and has urged authorities to ensure such tragedies do not repeat. Local community members in Chamoli also expressed anger over the loss of another young life to reckless driving in metro cities.
