Chhath Puja 2026 : CM Rekha Gupta Reviews Munak Canal Ghat Preparations

Chhath Puja 2026 : Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta conducted a surprise inspection of the Munak Canal area near Prembari Bridge in Singalpur on Saturday to review preparations for Chhath Puja 2026. During the visit, she assessed the progress of construction, renovation and beautification work being carried out at the Chhath ghats.

The Chief Minister instructed officials to ensure that all development work meets high standards of quality, functionality and appearance. She made it clear that superficial work or formalities in the name of development would not be tolerated.

The inspection focused on ensuring that devotees can perform Chhath rituals in a clean, organised and well-maintained environment.

Officials Told to Complete Ghat Work Before Chhath Puja

During the inspection, Rekha Gupta reviewed ongoing projects with senior officials from the departments concerned. She directed them to complete the construction and renovation of all designated ghats before the festival.

According to the Chief Minister, the Munak Canal area, previously associated with cleanliness and management challenges, is being developed into a cleaner and more organised public space.

The government aims to ensure that devotees, particularly members of the Purvanchali community, do not face unnecessary difficulties while offering prayers and performing rituals during Chhath Puja.

Landscaping and Green Belts to Improve the Area

The Chief Minister also reviewed plans for beautifying the surrounding area. She instructed officials to avoid unplanned plantation and instead develop a coordinated landscaping plan based on the available space and overall design.

Officials were asked to prepare attractive layouts and develop green belts to make the Munak Canal area more visually appealing and environmentally friendly.

The focus, she said, should be on creating a well-planned space that serves devotees while improving the appearance of the surrounding neighbourhood.

Lighting, Decoration and Cleanliness Arrangements

Rekha Gupta directed officials to pay close attention to the finishing and decoration of the ghats. Her instructions included painting walls, removing construction debris and cleaning access routes.

She also called for attractive lighting and decorative string lights around the ghats and nearby areas during the festival.

In addition, officials were instructed to ensure that pathways, steps and drainage systems are properly maintained before devotees arrive. These measures are intended to make access to the ghats easier and improve the overall experience for visitors.

Strict Instructions on Waste Management and Traffic

The Chief Minister expressed strong displeasure over waste management issues in the area. She warned that garbage accumulation and foul smells on roads and footpaths would not be tolerated.

Officials were directed to establish an effective waste collection and disposal system to maintain cleanliness throughout the festival period.

She also stressed that construction and development work must account for traffic movement around roads, footpaths and bridges. Authorities were asked to ensure that these activities do not create avoidable congestion or inconvenience for the public.

Delhi Government Focuses on Better Facilities for Chhath Devotees

Rekha Gupta reiterated that Chhath Puja holds significant cultural and religious importance in Delhi. She said the government is committed to providing devotees with better facilities and ensuring that the festival takes place in a clean, safe and well-organised environment.

The progress of ghat construction, sanitation, landscaping, lighting and traffic management will be crucial to completing preparations before the celebrations begin.
