Firecracker explosion in Tamil Nadu’s Sivakasi

Explosion in Tamil Nadu: The death toll in the firecracker unit explosion in Sengamalapatti village of Sivakasi in southern Virudhunagar district of Tamil Nadu has increased to 10. The dead included six women. Police sources said that 13 people injured and burnt in the blast are undergoing treatment in the hospital.

The blast occurred on Thursday afternoon when around a hundred workers were engaged in making fancy firecrackers at a private firecracker unit. Six workers died on the spot in the accident, while three others died at the Sivakasi Government Hospital.

One employee was reported missing following a rescue operation following the explosion. His charred remains were later recovered from the debris late in the night, taking the death toll to 10. Meanwhile, police have registered five cases against the owner of the firecracker unit and two others.

Leaders of various political parties including President Draupadi Murmu, Tamil Nadu Governor R.N.Ravi, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin and BJP state president K.Annamalai, TNCC chief K.Selvaperunthagai, TMC leader G.K.Vasan, PMK leaders. Condoled the deaths in the firecracker explosion.
