Jhanda Ji Mela History : Devotees have unwavering faith in the Shree Jhandeji fair held every year in Dehradun. This is the reason why sangats from every country and abroad reach here. Devendra Das Maharaj told the Sangats that the history of Shri Jhandeji Mela is linked to the existence of Dehradun. Shri Guru Ram Rai Maharaj arrived in Doon in 1676. Enchanted by the natural beauty of the place, the camp he built on the high and low hills, the name of the same place changed from Deradeen to Deradun and then to Dehradun.
He made this earth his workplace. He placed a huge flag for public welfare in Sri Darbar Sahib in the middle of Dehradun and gave a message to the people to get blessings from this flag. With this, the tradition of visiting Shri Jhanda Sahib started.
Shri Guru Ram Rai Maharaj is called the founder of Dehradun. Guru Ram Rai Maharaj was the eldest son of Guru Har Rai, the seventh Guru of the Sikhs. He was born on the fifth day of Holi in the year 1646 at Kiratpur in district Hoshiarpur (now Ropar) of Punjab.

The work of stitching the covers was completed till late evening with the chants and hymns of Shri Guru Ram Rai Maharaj. Shri Jhandeji is covered with three types of covers. Plain covers are offered on the innermost side.
Their number is 41. Chenille covers are offered in the middle, their number is 21. Darshani Gilaf is offered on the outermost side. Its number is one. This year, the family of Sansar Singh of Jalandhar has got the privilege of offering Darshani Gilaf.
