ABVP lockout outside DAV College in Dehradun
Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) activists staged a symbolic lockout outside DAV College in Dehradun on Friday, demanding admission in all colleges affiliated to Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Central Garhwal University on the basis of merit as before. During this, the students in DAV also had a heated argument with the police.
College Student Union President Dayal Bisht says that there are many colleges affiliated to HNB Garhwal Central University. Due to lack of information about the entrance exam CUET (Common University Entrance Test) which was conducted by the UGC in these colleges, many students could not give the exam. Because of this, more than 25 percent admissions have not been done in these colleges.
He said that the way admissions used to be done on the basis of merit in the past, in the same way admissions should be made in the university now. Dayal Bisht says that the colleges in which graduation was done for a fee of just Rs 1500, today they have not given the CUET paper. Because the government has not told them what is the CUET form.
He said that the geographical situation of Uttarakhand is different. In such a situation, students living in hilly districts do not know how to fill this form. In such a situation, many students will be deprived of their right to education. The Student Council will not allow playing with the future of the youth. The student organization has warned the government that if their demands are not implemented soon, they will be forced to agitate.
ABVP activists raised slogans outside DAV College saying that the government is doing injustice to the students. He said that the government should restore the admission process on the basis of merit as before.
Police reached the spot to control the situation and removed the protesters. The police said that the protesters have broken the law and legal action will be taken against them.
