Inspection of Ongoing Construction Work at Police Line Almora
Almora, September 27, 2024 – Director General of Police (DGP) Abhinav Kumar visited the Almora Police Line as part of his tour of the Kumaon region. During his visit, he inspected the ongoing construction work, including the administrative building, women’s barracks, and Type-4 quarters. DGP Kumar emphasized the importance of maintaining high-quality standards in construction and directed the concerned officials to ensure timely completion of the work. He also instructed SSP Almora, Devendra Pincha, to periodically review the progress.
DGP Kumar stated that several modernization initiatives are underway within the police force across the state. These include the construction and upgradation of police offices and accommodations to ensure that personnel have access to better facilities. He stressed the importance of providing modern, comfortable housing and office spaces for the police force.
Crime Review and Soldier Conference in Almora
As part of the visit, DGP Kumar conducted an in-depth review of crime in the districts of Almora, Bageshwar, Pithoragarh, and Champawat. In the presence of SSP Devendra Pincha, SP Bageshwar Chandrashekhar Ghodke, and In-charge SP Pithoragarh Harish Verma, he assessed the region’s crime statistics. Special attention was given to cases related to women’s crimes, cybercrime, and the increasing drug abuse among the youth.
DGP Kumar issued strict directives to all district heads to take firm action against crimes involving women and to combat the growing menace of drugs and cybercrime. He also recommended that effective counseling be provided to rehabilitate young individuals involved in drug abuse and help reintegrate them into society.
He emphasized the strict enforcement of the Social Media Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) issued by police headquarters, urging all officers to ensure compliance.
To enhance women’s safety and prevent crimes like robbery and theft, the DGP instructed officials to install CCTV cameras in isolated areas of the city. He highlighted the role of surveillance in curbing crime.
The DGP also discussed improving traffic management by installing more CCTV cameras, implementing e-challans, and identifying accident-prone areas for barricading. He emphasized that public awareness programs should be strengthened to make police services more accessible to the general public.
For cases involving crimes against women and the disappearance of minors, he stressed the need for swift action and building trust between women and the police. He proposed that every police station should have a dedicated, comfortable room for women, where they can feel safe while lodging complaints.
DGP Kumar also addressed the growing challenge of cyber fraud, which has become a serious issue in recent times. He highlighted the need for immediate action in such cases, as victims often lose their life savings to fraudsters. He urged officers to make every effort to apprehend cybercriminals quickly.
Solving Police Personnel Issues
A Soldier Conference was also held, where DGP Kumar listened to the concerns of male and female police personnel. He provided necessary directions to the relevant authorities to ensure timely resolution of these issues. The goal was to resolve problems efficiently and ensure the welfare of the police force.
