Municipal Corporation Dehradun : Dehradun is making efforts to become a garbage-free city by strengthening the door-to-door garbage collection system. However, some apartments in the city are not cooperating with the municipal corporation’s efforts. These apartments are not allowing the contracted company to collect garbage from their houses, and some private rickshaws are also dumping garbage in the municipal dustbins without permission.
To tackle this issue, the Municipal Corporation has imposed a fine of Rs one lakh each on nine such apartments and has directed them to deposit the fine amount within a week. If they fail to do so, they have been warned of having their RC cut. Among those who have been fined, one of the apartments belongs to a BJP leader.
In addition to this, the municipal corporation has also seized five private rickshaws that were dumping garbage in the municipal dustbins on Laxmi Road without permission. The corporation has contracted three companies for door-to-door garbage collection, and these companies collect garbage from their respective wards. To further improve the situation, the municipal corporation will now remove large dustbins installed on Laxmi Road and Mata Mandir, and the companies have been instructed to pick up the garbage from door to door every day.
However, there are still some areas where garbage is not being collected for a week, such as Canal Road and Doon Vihar. Councilor Sanjay Nautiyal has reported this to the corporation several times, but no action has been taken yet. The City Health Officer, Dr. Avinash Khanna, has assured that the company concerned will be questioned and necessary action will be taken to resolve the issue.
In conclusion, it is essential to cooperate with the municipal corporation’s efforts to make Dehradun a garbage-free city by properly disposing of garbage and allowing the contracted company to collect it from houses. It is also important for the municipal corporation to take necessary actions against those who are not cooperating to ensure that the city remains clean and healthy.
Apart from the efforts made by the municipal corporation, it is also the responsibility of the citizens to maintain cleanliness in the city. It is important to dispose of the garbage properly and not to litter on the streets or public places. This will not only make the city look cleaner but also prevent the spread of diseases and infections.
The municipal corporation can also conduct awareness campaigns to educate citizens on the importance of maintaining cleanliness and proper waste management. They can also encourage citizens to participate in cleanliness drives and organize events to promote the cause. By working together, the citizens and the municipal corporation can create a cleaner and healthier environment for everyone.
Moreover, it is also important to implement strict rules and regulations to ensure that the people and the businesses comply with the waste management policies. The municipal corporation can also work on developing a better waste management system that promotes segregation of waste at the source and encourages recycling and composting. This can help in reducing the amount of waste generated and also minimize the burden on the waste collection system.
In conclusion, making Dehradun a garbage-free city is a collective responsibility. The municipal corporation, citizens, and businesses need to work together to achieve this goal. By taking necessary actions and creating awareness, we can ensure that the city remains clean and healthy for generations to come.
