Gaurikund landslide : After heavy rains in Gaurikund of Rudraprayag, three shops collapsed due to debris falling from the mountain. 10 to 13 people have gone missing in the accident. According to the Meteorological Department, heavy rain is expected in Uttarakhand for the next few days. In such a situation, people have been advised to be cautious.

Gaurikund is an important stop for Kedarnath Yatra. Every year lakhs of devotees go to Kedarnath Dham from here. This accident due to heavy rains can affect the journey.

The government has started relief and rescue work after the accident. NDRF and SDRF teams have reached the spot. The search for the missing people continues.

The highway has been closed due to landslides at Kameda and Karnprayag on the Rishikesh-Badrinath highway. The vehicle is stuck in the swamp in Kameda and since morning around 150 vehicles going to and from Rudraprayag, Srinagar, Rishikesh, Dehradun, Haridwar, Delhi including Karnaprayag, Joshimath, Badrinath and Gopeshpar are stuck.

While near Uma Devi Tirahe in Karnprayag, debris and stones have fallen on the road due to breaking of NH’s buttress. More than 100 vehicles going towards Rishikesh and Badrinath are stranded. The local people have to say that in Karnprayag, the pillar of NH is continuously breaking.

Due to this, local people and school children including vehicles are facing difficulty in commuting. Apart from this, the debris that fell on the Karnaprayag-Gwaldam highway has been removed at Mallyapod, while this highway is still blocked in Harmony. Disaster Management Officer Nandkishore Joshi said that machines have been sent to clear the debris at the obstructed places.

Landslides are happening in many areas of Uttarakhand due to heavy rains. Roads are being closed due to this and people are facing difficulty in movement. The government has appealed to the people to be cautious and postpone the yatras.
