Hindu festivals are being celebrated in this way in Dehradun. It is an effort of the temple priests and local people to celebrate this festival in a more grand manner.
Janmashtami is celebrated every year on the Ashtami date of Krishna Paksha of Bhado month. Houses and temples are specially decorated on this day. There is a tradition of celebrating Krishna Janmotsav at midnight in conjunction with Ashtami Tithi and Rohini Nakshatra.
